Beginners Beekeepers Class
Saturdays -
9 am - 1 pm
Our Beginner Beekeeping Class is the perfect opportunity for hands-on training before embarking on your adventure. Crissy has gathered her knowledge from a plethora of seasoned beekeepers before her and loves passing on the knowledge she has gained. Whether it is your first time in a bee suit or you want a refresher before diving into the honeybee world, we love being able to share memorable moments. Researching and reading are excellent entries for beekeeping. However, we suggest a hands-on learning environment to ensure that keeping bees is what you expect before getting your hive. The Beekeeping 101 Class will help you identify what to look for in a hive and, most importantly, how to be comfortable and safe when working with the bees! This is our solid foundation! We want to ensure you are trained correctly for your safety and growth, as well as that of your honeybees.

This class will be held at our primary SGF location in Potosi, TX. Classroom time will consist of a two-hour PowerPoint presentation, and then we will proceed to the apiary for the field class portion. You will observe Crissy complete a full hive inspection, such as identifying eggs, workers, drones, and the queen.

Things to know:
We are located in Potosi, TX, a small community outside of Abilene, TX.
Adults and children 13 years and older can register for the class.
Classes will be cancelled on rainy days or temperatures below 60 degrees (Bees do not like getting wet or cold. This makes for many angry bees). In this instance, we will refund you in full, but we'll do our best to have a makeup class day.
During the spring classes, attire should include a lightweight long-sleeve shirt, jeans or pants (no holes or capris), closed-toed shoes (preferably boots), and a baseball cap. If you have your own bee jacket/suit and gloves, please bring them with you; otherwise, a full suit will be provided for use during class.
No use of perfumes or colognes.
A liability waiver will be filled out before entering the apiary.
