This is a hands-on class at our apiary from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Food and drinks will be provided. ---- Our Beginner Beekeeping Class is the perfect opportunity for hands-on training before embarking on your adventure. Crissy has gathered her knowledge from a plethora of seasoned beekeepers before her and loves passing on the knowledge she has gained. Whether it is your first time in a bee suit or you want a refresher before diving into the honeybee world, we love being able to share memorable moments. Researching and reading are excellent entries for beekeeping. However, we suggest a hands-on learning environment to ensure keeping bees is what you expect before getting your hive. The Beekeeping 101 Class will help you identify what to look for in a hive and, most importantly, how to be comfortable and safe when working with the bees! This is our solid foundation! We want to ensure you are trained correctly for your safety and the safety and growth of the honeybees. ​ This class will be held at our primary SGF location in Potosi, TX. Classroom time will consist of a two-hour PowerPoint presentation, and then we will proceed to the apiary for the field class portion. You will observe Crissy complete a full hive inspection, such as identifying eggs, workers, drones, and the queen. ​ Topics: Basics of the bee/bee biology Learn to identify different stages of honey bee development Roles and responsibilities of the bees in their colony Necessary equipment Beehive components Hive maintenance Full inspection of a functioning bee hive Question and answer session at the end of class HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE IN THE APIARY ​ This class is $100.00 per person and offers a comprehensive 4-hour learning experience. Available class dates: February 22, 2025 March 29, 2025 April 19, 2025 May 17, 2025 June 21, 2025 July 19, 2025 No Class in August September 20, 2025 October 18, 2025 Please note that this fee is nonrefundable, so please check your schedule before signing up.
